Religion

  • At the 2001 Census, more than two-thirds of the 75,670 people in the Outer South-East Region at the 2001 Census reported that they were Christians. There were 19,202 Catholics, 12,134 Anglicans, and 5,625 Uniting Church members.

  • Catholics outnumbered Anglicans in each of the SLAs in the Outer South-East Region.

  • In five SLAs in the Outer South-East Region (Eight Mile Plains, Kuraby, MacGregor, Runcorn and Stretton-Karawatha) at least 10.0% of the population belonged to non-Christian religions. The highest proportion was 19.0% in Stretton-Karawatha.

  • In Stretton-Karawatha, 17.5% of the population (7,224 people) stated that they had no religion compared to the Outer South-East Region average of 13.3%.

  • In the Outer South-East Region, 7,224 people (9.5% of the population) did not state their religious affiliation.
