Population change

  • The estimated resident population of the Outer South-East Region at 30 June 2001 was 78,623 people, representing a total increase of 11,148 people or 3.1% per annum since 1996.

  • On Census night (7 August 2001), 76,710 people were counted in the Outer South-East Region, representing a total increase of 13,538 people or 4.0% per annum since the 1996 Census.

  • Kuraby, with a growth rate of 22.8% a year, was the fastest growing Statistical Local Area (SLA) in the Outer South-East Region between 1996 and 2001. In Rochedale, however, the population declined by 2.4% a year over the same period.

  • Population growth in Kuraby, Mansfield, Mount Gravatt, Runcorn and Upper Mount Gravatt was faster between 1996 and 2001 than in the previous five years.
