With an estimated resident population of 12,558 people at 30 June 2001, Runcorn was the most populous SLA in the Outer South-East Region with 16.0% of the Outer South-East Region's population.

Rochedale had the smallest population of the SLAs in the Outer South-East Region, with an estimated resident population of 1,187 people.

On Census night 2001, 73,685 people (96.0% of the population) in the Outer South-East Region were counted at home. A further 1,413 people (1.8%) were visitors from Queensland, 578 people (0.8%) were interstate visitors, and 1,044 people (1.4%) were visitors from overseas.

Eight Mile Plains had the highest number of visitors of any of the SLAs in the Outer South-East Region with 242 visitors from Queensland, 147 from interstate and 259 from overseas. However, Rochedale had the highest percentage of visitors, totalling 9.8% of all persons counted in that SLA. Mount Gravatt East had the lowest proportion of visitors with 3.1%, more than half of whom were from Queensland.

Rochedale had the highest proportion of interstate visitors (6.1%) and Stretton-Karawatha had the highest proportion of overseas visitors (2.5%).
