In 2001, there were 20,330 family households in the Outer South-East Region (76.6% of all households in the region).

Stretton-Karawatha had the highest proportion of family households (92.2%) of any SLA in the Outer South-East Region while Mount Gravatt had the lowest proportion (60.5%).

There were 4,918 lone person households in the Outer South-East Region (18.5%). Mount Gravatt had the highest proportion of lone person households (35.4%) and Stretton-Karawatha had the lowest proportion (5.6%).

There were 1,283 group households in the Outer South-East Region (4.8% of all households). Upper Mount Gravatt had the highest proportion of group households (6.3%).
