In the Outer South-East Region, 5,208 households (19.6% of occupied private dwellings in the region) recorded an income of $1,500 or more a week at the 2001 Census. A further 5,150 households (19.4%) had an income of between $1,000 and $1,499 a week. At the other end of the scale, there were 311 households (1.2%) with negative or nil income and 2,415 households (9.1%) with between $1 and $299 per week.

In Stretton-Karawatha, 27.5% of households had high incomes of $1,500 or more a week but in Upper Mount Gravatt the proportion was only 14.6%.

Mount Gravatt had the largest proportion of low income households (between $1 and $299 a week) with 18.7%. The smallest proportion of low income households was in Kuraby (4.2%).
