Travel to work

  • On Census day 2001, 23,463 people or 66.3% of employed people in the Outer South-East Region travelled to work by car, either as driver or passenger. Bus only was used by 2,702 people (7.6% of employed people in the Outer South-East Region) and train only was used by 679 people (1.9%). In addition, 1,527 people (4.3% of employed people) worked at home.

  • The proportion of people using the train to travel to work was relatively high in Kuraby (8.1% of employed people) but the highest number of people using the train was in Runcorn (388 people). Mount Gravatt had the highest proportion of people using the bus for travelling to work (12.0%).

  • In Rochedale, 5.2% of employed people walked to work.

  • The proportion of people working at home ranged from 18.3% in Rochedale (a relatively high proportion) to 2.9% in Runcorn.
