In 2001 in the Outer South-East Region, 8,339 people (23.5% of residents who had lived at a different address in 1996) were aged 25-34 years. The next largest age group of residents who had moved were aged 15-24 years (22.1% or 7,842 residents) followed by 35-44 year-olds (17.3% or 6,140 residents).

Mount Gravatt East had the largest proportion of people who had moved and were in the 25-34 year age group (29.2%). Mount Gravatt had the largest proportion of people who had moved and were in the 15-24 year age group (27.0%). Rochedale had the largest proportion of people who had moved in the 35-44 year age group (21.9%).

In Upper Mount Gravatt, 9.4% of residents who had moved between 1996 and 2001 were aged 75 years and over.
